Northwestern Energy – Aberdeen Generating Station, Unit 2
The power plant, located at an existing Northwestern Energy plant site in Aberdeen, South Dakota, consists of one Pratt & Whitney FT8-3 Swift-Pac combustion turbine generator (CTG) operating as a simple cycle unit, one 300,000-gallon demineralized water tank and one 75-ft. by 125-ft. water treatment building. The plant provides peaking service during heavy electrical demand time periods. The twin turbines operate on a dual fuel (natural gas and liquid fuel) system with water injection to assist in achieving required exhaust emission levels. The plant is capable of producing at the output of the generator terminals 52 MW.
Boldt was responsible for the complete design, engineering, procurement, installation, construction, start-up, commissioning and turnover balance of the plant to readiness for commercial operation, including the incorporation of start-up and commissioning of all owner-furnished equipment and material.
