City Utilities of Springfield – Southwest Generating Station, Unit 2
To meet the growing demand from the community, City Utilities of Springfield constructed a second coal-fired, 300-MW unit at its existing southwest power station. Boldt served as the construction and erection contractor for the project, managing more than 1.1 M tradespeople hours over the course of the project, with as many as 350 tradespeople on site at a time.
Included in the scope of work was steel erection, equipment installation and assembly and concrete. Steel erection included steel for the turbine building, boiler support and auxiliary structures. Equipment included one owner-furnished Foster Wheeler 300 MW pulverized coal boiler, four coal silos, four MPB pulverizes, SCR, ID, FD and PA fans, bottom ash handling system, baghouse, SO2 scrubber, coal feeders, soot blowers, regenerative air heater, CFB scrubber, lime storage silos, recycle ash silo, pulse jet fabric filter, carbon injection system and urea-based catalyst system.

- The Boldt team worked to overcome unique challenges due to the positioning of an adjacent, 200 MW operating unit, the location of the coal silos and the need to schedule work around outages of the Unit 1 GSU transformers.
