Children’s Wisconsin – Corporate Data Center

The top priority of 2011 for Children’s Wisconsin was the construction of the new Corporate Data Center. Federal regulations were imposed on healthcare providers to convert to an electronic medical records system by the year 2015. For Children’s, they knew their investment would have the potential to improve the tracking and quality of care. Electronic medical records can help physicians manage patients with chronic diseases, ensures the hospital that their providers are following guidelines, and reduces risk for any possible variation in care.
Boldt became a part of this transformation of care in 2011 when the new data center was built in the lower level of the Children’s Corporate Center. The project consists of four main areas; a Production Room, which contains the power distribution units, and data equipment; an exterior Utility Yard, which houses a 2.5 megawatt generator and two 200 Ton chillers; an Operations Center, which has space for 18 employees in the event of a critical situation; and an Electrical Room, which houses the main switchgear, UPS, and distribution equipment for the facility.
