Peninsula Players Theater
Peninsula Players Theatre, in operation for more than 70 years, is one of the nation’s oldest continuously operated outdoor venues. The original structures, built in 1937, were outdated and structurally unsound, severely limiting productions. Boldt was engaged as the construction manager for a redevelopment of the 15-acre venue. This included constructing a new theatre (stage house), a scene shop to construct scenery, audience pavilion and concessions stand. The new stage is significantly larger, with a wider view, and a 65-foot fly tower and wide wings to accommodate larger set changes.
Although the venue had no trouble filling the theater with guests, the previous 550 folding directors’ chairs were uncomfortable. The 621 new fixed upholstered seats feature elevated back rows for improved comfort and viewing. The theater also features several innovative design concepts, such as heated floors to enhance the experience on chillier days during the end of the season and a roof covered in vegetation to reduce runoff and noise during performances.
