CommonSpirit — St. Joseph’s Medical Center

Boldt partnered with St. Joseph’s Medical Center and Taylor Design to renovate the hospital’s pediatric services unit, transforming an aging space into a modern, family-centered environment designed around the needs of children, families and care teams. The 9,000 SF Design-Build renovation expanded the unit from nine dedicated beds to 18 while remaining within the hospital’s existing third-floor footprint.
The renovation included refreshed patient rooms, a centrally located playroom and reconfigured nurse stations designed to improve visibility and access to daylight. Behind the walls, the team completed significant infrastructure improvements, including a new rooftop air-handling unit, exterior window replacement, fire and life safety upgrades, new headwall systems, expanded medical gas capabilities and centralized patient monitoring infrastructure.
Completing the renovation within an operational hospital required careful phasing and coordination to maintain continuity of care. The team used BIM coordination, Target Value Design and early collaboration with HCAI and trade partners to plan shutdowns, system tie-ins and construction activities around ongoing hospital operations. Work extending to the roof required additional coordination around the hospital’s active helipad, with a Method of Operations established with flight services and hospital staff to safely accommodate inbound aircraft while work progressed
